3b10ebeb95 Makefile.extrawarn: Move -Wunaligned-access to W=1
commit 1cf5f151d2 upstream.

-Wunaligned-access is a new warning in clang that is default enabled for
arm and arm64 under certain circumstances within the clang frontend (see
LLVM commit below). On v5.17-rc2, an ARCH=arm allmodconfig build shows
1284 total/70 unique instances of this warning (most of the instances
are in header files), which is quite noisy.

To keep a normal build green through CONFIG_WERROR, only show this
warning with W=1, which will allow automated build systems to catch new
instances of the warning so that the total number can be driven down to
zero eventually since catching unaligned accesses at compile time would
be generally useful.

f0ad6895fa UPSTREAM: kasan: always respect CONFIG_KASAN_STACK
Currently, the asan-stack parameter is only passed along if
CFLAGS_KASAN_SHADOW is not empty, which requires KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET to
be defined in Kconfig so that the value can be checked. In RISC-V's
case, KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET is not defined in Kconfig, which means that
asan-stack does not get disabled with clang even when CONFIG_KASAN_STACK
is disabled, resulting in large stack warnings with allmodconfig:

  drivers/video/fbdev/omap2/omapfb/displays/panel-lgphilips-lb035q02.c:117:12: error: stack frame size (14400) exceeds limit (2048) in function 'lb035q02_connect' [-Werror,-Wframe-larger-than]
  static int lb035q02_connect(struct omap_dss_device *dssdev)
             ^
  1 error generated.

Ensure that the value of CONFIG_KASAN_STACK is always passed along to
the compiler so that these warnings do not happen when
CONFIG_KASAN_STACK is disabled.

ce21379c44 UPSTREAM: kasan: arm64: support specialized outlined tag mismatch checks
By using outlined checks we can achieve a significant code size
improvement by moving the tag-based ASAN checks into separate
functions. Unlike the existing CONFIG_KASAN_OUTLINE mode these
functions have a custom calling convention that preserves most
registers and is specialized to the register containing the address
and the type of access, and as a result we can eliminate the code
size and performance overhead of a standard calling convention such
as AAPCS for these functions.

This change depends on a separate series of changes to Clang [1] to
support outlined checks in the kernel, although the change works fine
without them (we just don't get outlined checks). This is because the
flag -mllvm -hwasan-inline-all-checks=0 has no effect until the Clang
changes land. The flag was introduced in the Clang 9.0 timeframe as
part of the support for outlined checks in userspace and because our
minimum Clang version is 10.0 we can pass it unconditionally.

Outlined checks require a new runtime function with a custom calling
convention. Add this function to arch/arm64/lib.

I measured the code size of defconfig + tag-based KASAN, as well
as boot time (i.e. time to init launch) on a DragonBoard 845c with
an Android arm64 GKI kernel. The results are below:

                               code size    boot time
CONFIG_KASAN_INLINE=y before    92824064      6.18s
CONFIG_KASAN_INLINE=y after     38822400      6.65s
CONFIG_KASAN_OUTLINE=y          39215616     11.48s

We can see straight away that specialized outlined checks beat the
existing CONFIG_KASAN_OUTLINE=y on both code size and boot time
for tag-based ASAN.

As for the comparison between CONFIG_KASAN_INLINE=y before and after
we saw similar performance numbers in userspace [2] and decided
that since the performance overhead is minimal compared to the
overhead of tag-based ASAN itself as well as compared to the code
size improvements we would just replace the inlined checks with the
specialized outlined checks without the option to select between them,
and that is what I have implemented in this patch.

078b5a4498 scripts/dtc: dtx_diff: remove broken example from help text
commit d8adf5b92a upstream.

dtx_diff suggests to use <(...) syntax to pipe two inputs into it, but
this has never worked: The /proc/self/fds/... paths passed by the shell
will fail the `[ -f "${dtx}" ] && [ -r "${dtx}" ]` check in compile_to_dts,
but even with this check removed, the function cannot work: hexdump will
eat up the DTB magic, making the subsequent dtc call fail, as a pipe
cannot be rewound.

Simply remove this broken example, as there is already an alternative one
that works fine.

ffff118fe1 BACKPORT: scripts/Makefile.clang: default to LLVM_IAS=1
LLVM_IAS=1 controls enabling clang's integrated assembler via
-integrated-as. This was an explicit opt in until we could enable
assembler support in Clang for more architecures. Now we have support
and CI coverage of LLVM_IAS=1 for all architecures except a few more
bugs affecting s390 and powerpc.

This commit flips the default from opt in via LLVM_IAS=1 to opt out via
LLVM_IAS=0. CI systems or developers that were previously doing builds
with CC=clang or LLVM=1 without explicitly setting LLVM_IAS must now
explicitly opt out via LLVM_IAS=0, otherwise they will be implicitly
opted-in.

This finally shortens the command line invocation when cross compiling
with LLVM to simply:

$ make ARCH=arm64 LLVM=1

377062e983 UPSTREAM: Makefile: infer --target from ARCH for CC=clang
We get constant feedback that the command line invocation of make is too
long when compiling with LLVM. CROSS_COMPILE is helpful when a toolchain
has a prefix of the target triple, or is an absolute path outside of
$PATH.

Since a Clang binary is generally multi-targeted, we can infer a given
target from SRCARCH/ARCH. If CROSS_COMPILE is not set, simply set
--target= for CLANG_FLAGS, KBUILD_CFLAGS, and KBUILD_AFLAGS based on
$SRCARCH.

Previously, we'd cross compile via:
$ ARCH=arm64 CROSS_COMPILE=aarch64-linux-gnu- make LLVM=1 LLVM_IAS=1
Now:
$ ARCH=arm64 make LLVM=1 LLVM_IAS=1

For native builds (not involving cross compilation) we now explicitly
specify a target triple rather than rely on the implicit host triple.

5f94c8bd74 BACKPORT: kbuild: prefix $(srctree)/ to some included Makefiles
VPATH is used in Kbuild to make pattern rules search for prerequisites
in both $(objtree) and $(srctree). Some of *.c, *.S files are not real
sources, but generated by tools such as flex, bison, perl.

In contrast, I doubt the benefit of --include-dir=$(abs_srctree) because
it is always clear which Makefiles are real sources, and which are not.

So, my hope is to add $(srctree)/ prefix to all check-in Makefiles,
then remove --include-dir=$(abs_srctree) flag in the future.

I am touching only some Kbuild core parts for now. Treewide fixes will
be needed to achieve this goal.

a5f73082c6 BACKPORT: kbuild: check the minimum assembler version in Kconfig
Documentation/process/changes.rst defines the minimum assembler version
(binutils version), but we have never checked it in the build time.

Kbuild never invokes 'as' directly because all assembly files in the
kernel tree are *.S, hence must be preprocessed. I do not expect
raw assembly source files (*.s) would be added to the kernel tree.

Therefore, we always use $(CC) as the assembler driver, and commit
aa824e0c96 ("kbuild: remove AS variable") removed 'AS'. However,
we are still interested in the version of the assembler acting behind.

As usual, the --version option prints the version string.

  $ as --version | head -n 1
  GNU assembler (GNU Binutils for Ubuntu) 2.35.1

But, we do not have $(AS). So, we can add the -Wa prefix so that
$(CC) passes --version down to the backing assembler.

  $ gcc -Wa,--version | head -n 1
  gcc: fatal error: no input files
  compilation terminated.

OK, we need to input something to satisfy gcc.

  $ gcc -Wa,--version -c -x assembler /dev/null -o /dev/null | head -n 1
  GNU assembler (GNU Binutils for Ubuntu) 2.35.1

The combination of Clang and GNU assembler works in the same way:

  $ clang -no-integrated-as -Wa,--version -c -x assembler /dev/null -o /dev/null | head -n 1
  GNU assembler (GNU Binutils for Ubuntu) 2.35.1

Clang with the integrated assembler fails like this:

  $ clang -integrated-as -Wa,--version -c -x assembler /dev/null -o /dev/null | head -n 1
  clang: error: unsupported argument '--version' to option 'Wa,'

For the last case, checking the error message is fragile. If the
proposal for -Wa,--version support [1] is accepted, this may not be
even an error in the future.

One easy way is to check if -integrated-as is present in the passed
arguments. We did not pass -integrated-as to CLANG_FLAGS before, but
we can make it explicit.

Nathan pointed out -integrated-as is the default for all of the
architectures/targets that the kernel cares about, but it goes
along with "explicit is better than implicit" policy. [2]

With all this in my mind, I implemented scripts/as-version.sh to
check the assembler version in Kconfig time.

  $ scripts/as-version.sh gcc
  GNU 23501
  $ scripts/as-version.sh clang -no-integrated-as
  GNU 23501
  $ scripts/as-version.sh clang -integrated-as
  LLVM 0

d5c19346d1 UPSTREAM: kbuild: collect minimum tool versions into scripts/min-tool-version.sh
The kernel build uses various tools, many of which are provided by the
same software suite, for example, LLVM and Binutils.

When you raise the minimum version of Clang/LLVM, you need to update
clang_min_version in scripts/cc-version.sh and also lld_min_version in
scripts/ld-version.sh.

Kbuild can handle CC=clang and LD=ld.lld independently, but it does not
make much sense to maintain their versions separately.

Let's create a central place of minimum tool versions so you do not need
to touch multiple files. scripts/min-tool-version.sh prints the minimum
version of the given tool.

Add LC_ALL=C to override the user's locale.

BTW, setting LC_MESSAGES=C (or LANG=C) is not enough because it is
ineffective if LC_ALL is set on the user's environment.

08436c5379 UPSTREAM: kbuild: check the minimum compiler version in Kconfig
Paul Gortmaker reported a regression in the GCC version check. [1]
If you use GCC 4.8, the build breaks before showing the error message
"error Sorry, your version of GCC is too old - please use 4.9 or newer."

I do not want to apply his fix-up since it implies we would not be able
to remove any cc-option test. Anyway, I admit checking the GCC version
in <linux/compiler-gcc.h> is too late.

Almost at the same time, Linus also suggested to move the compiler
version error to Kconfig time. [2]

I unified the two similar scripts, gcc-version.sh and clang-version.sh
into cc-version.sh. The old scripts invoked the compiler multiple times
(3 times for gcc-version.sh, 4 times for clang-version.sh). I refactored
the code so the new one invokes the compiler just once, and also tried
my best to use shell-builtin commands where possible.

The new script runs faster.

  $ time ./scripts/clang-version.sh clang
  120000

  real    0m0.029s
  user    0m0.012s
  sys     0m0.021s

  $ time ./scripts/cc-version.sh clang
  Clang 120000

  real    0m0.009s
  user    0m0.006s
  sys     0m0.004s

cc-version.sh also shows an error message if the compiler is too old:

  $ make defconfig CC=clang-9
  *** Default configuration is based on 'x86_64_defconfig'
  ***
  *** Compiler is too old.
  ***   Your Clang version:    9.0.1
  ***   Minimum Clang version: 10.0.1
  ***
  scripts/Kconfig.include:46: Sorry, this compiler is not supported.
  make[1]: *** [scripts/kconfig/Makefile:81: defconfig] Error 1
  make: *** [Makefile:602: defconfig] Error 2

The new script takes care of ICC because we have <linux/compiler-intel.h>
although I am not sure if building the kernel with ICC is well-supported.

fbcd938b1d UPSTREAM: kbuild: LD_VERSION redenomination
Commit ccbef1674a ("Kbuild, lto: add ld-version and ld-ifversion
macros") introduced scripts/ld-version.sh for GCC LTO.

At that time, this script handled 5 version fields because GCC LTO
needed the downstream binutils. (https://lkml.org/lkml/2014/4/8/272)

The code snippet from the submitted patch was as follows:

    # We need HJ Lu's Linux binutils because mainline binutils does not
    # support mixing assembler and LTO code in the same ld -r object.
    # XXX check if the gcc plugin ld is the expected one too
    # XXX some Fedora binutils should also support it. How to check for that?
    ifeq ($(call ld-ifversion,-ge,22710001,y),y)
        ...

However, GCC LTO was not merged into the mainline after all.
(https://lkml.org/lkml/2014/4/8/272)

So, the 4th and 5th fields were never used, and finally removed by
commit 0d61ed17dd ("ld-version: Drop the 4th and 5th version
components").

Since then, the last 4-digits returned by this script is always zeros.

Remove the meaningless last 4-digits. This makes the version format
consistent with GCC_VERSION, CLANG_VERSION, LLD_VERSION.

ec941a2277 recordmcount.pl: fix typo in s390 mcount regex
commit 4eb1782eaa upstream.

Commit 85bf17b28f ("recordmcount.pl: look for jgnop instruction as well
as bcrl on s390") added a new alternative mnemonic for the existing brcl
instruction. This is required for the combination old gcc version (pre 9.0)
and binutils since version 2.37.
However at the same time this commit introduced a typo, replacing brcl with
bcrl. As a result no mcount locations are detected anymore with old gcc
versions (pre 9.0) and binutils before version 2.37.
Fix this by using the correct mnemonic again.

f5187a9d52 recordmcount.pl: look for jgnop instruction as well as bcrl on s390
commit 85bf17b28f upstream.

On s390, recordmcount.pl is looking for "bcrl 0,<xxx>" instructions in
the objdump -d outpout. However since binutils 2.37, objdump -d
display "jgnop <xxx>" for the same instruction. Update the
mcount_regex so that it accepts both.

9fc17c3af5 kbuild: simplify GCC_PLUGINS enablement in dummy-tools/gcc

With commit 1e860048c5 ("gcc-plugins: simplify GCC plugin-dev

now scripts/gcc-plugins/Kconfig only checks plugin-version.h

1eee36a552 gcc-plugins: simplify GCC plugin-dev capability test
commit 1e860048c5 upstream.

Linus pointed out a third of the time in the Kconfig parse stage comes
from the single invocation of cc1plus in scripts/gcc-plugin.sh [1],
and directly testing plugin-version.h for existence cuts down the
overhead a lot. [2]

This commit takes one step further to kill the build test entirely.

The small piece of code was probably intended to test the C++ designated
initializer, which was not supported until C++20.

In fact, with -pedantic option given, both GCC and Clang emit a warning.

$ echo 'class test { public: int test; } test = { .test = 1 };' | g++ -x c++ -pedantic - -fsyntax-only
<stdin>:1:43: warning: C++ designated initializers only available with '-std=c++2a' or '-std=gnu++2a' [-Wpedantic]
$ echo 'class test { public: int test; } test = { .test = 1 };' | clang++ -x c++ -pedantic - -fsyntax-only
<stdin>:1:43: warning: designated initializers are a C++20 extension [-Wc++20-designator]
class test { public: int test; } test = { .test = 1 };
                                          ^
1 warning generated.

Otherwise, modern C++ compilers should be able to build the code, and
hopefully skipping this test should not make any practical problem.

Checking the existence of plugin-version.h is still needed to ensure
the plugin-dev package is installed. The test code is now small enough
to be embedded in scripts/gcc-plugins/Kconfig.

- Implement the tests in the module ourselves. However it's unclear
  that CMVP would allow this, and we would need the full list of tests,
  which could change over time depending on what the lab decides to do.

- Support the lab writing, building, and loading a custom kernel module
  (or a custom kernel image) that tests these functions.

- Provide a userspace interface to these services, restricted to builds
  with CONFIG_CRYPTO_FIPS140_MOD_EVAL_TESTING=y.  This would allow
  writing the tests in userspace, which would be much easier.

Implement the last solution, since it's the easier of the two solutions
that are "guaranteed" to be allowed. Make the module register a char
device which supports some ioctls, one per function that needs to be
tested. Also provide some sample userspace code in samples/crypto/.

Note: copy_to_user() would break the integrity check, so take some care
to exclude it. This is allowed since this is non-production code.

df58fb431a scripts/lld-version.sh: Rewrite based on upstream ld-version.sh
This patch is for linux-5.10.y only.

When scripts/lld-version.sh was initially written, it did not account
for the LLD_VENDOR cmake flag, which changes the output of ld.lld's
--version flag slightly.

Without LLD_VENDOR:

$ ld.lld --version
LLD 14.0.0 (compatible with GNU linkers)

With LLD_VENDOR:

$ ld.lld --version
Debian LLD 14.0.0 (compatible with GNU linkers)

As a result, CONFIG_LLD_VERSION is messed up and configuration values
that are dependent on it cannot be selected:

scripts/lld-version.sh: 20: printf: LLD: expected numeric value
scripts/lld-version.sh: 20: printf: LLD: expected numeric value
scripts/lld-version.sh: 20: printf: LLD: expected numeric value
init/Kconfig:52:warning: 'LLD_VERSION': number is invalid
.config:11:warning: symbol value '00000' invalid for LLD_VERSION
.config:8800:warning: override: CPU_BIG_ENDIAN changes choice state

This was fixed upstream by commit 1f09af0625 ("kbuild: Fix
ld-version.sh script if LLD was built with LLD_VENDOR") in 5.12 but that
was done to ld-version.sh after it was massively rewritten in
commit 02aff85922 ("kbuild: check the minimum linker version in
Kconfig").

To avoid bringing in that change plus its prerequisites and fixes, just
modify lld-version.sh to make it similar to the upstream ld-version.sh,
which handles ld.lld with or without LLD_VENDOR and ld.bfd without any
errors.

0c5ea53ad9 ANDROID: setlocalversion: make KMI_GENERATION optional
GKI required the KMI_GENERATION to be added to the kernel version
string, but this only makes sense for GKI kernels, for non-GKI kernels
we don't need it. Leave all the other stuff we added, though, as it
seems useful.

e1d7f0202a leaking_addresses: Always print a trailing newline
[ Upstream commit cf2a85efda ]

For files that lack trailing newlines and match a leaking address (e.g.
wchan[1]), the leaking_addresses.pl report would run together with the
next line, making things look corrupted.

Unconditionally remove the newline on input, and write it back out on
output.

81d8e70cdc gcc-plugins/structleak: add makefile var for disabling structleak

OpenSSL's ENGINE API is deprecated in OpenSSL v3.0.

Use OPENSSL_NO_ENGINE to disallow its use and fall back on the BIO API.

7ef43c0f68 nds32/ftrace: Fix Error: invalid operands (*UND* and *UND* sections) for `^'
commit be358af119 upstream.

I received a build failure for a new patch I'm working on the nds32
architecture, and when I went to test it, I couldn't get to my build error,
because it failed to build with a bunch of:

  Error: invalid operands (*UND* and *UND* sections) for `^'

issues with various files. Those files were temporary asm files that looked
like:  kernel/.tmp_mc_fork.s

I decided to look deeper, and found that the "mc" portion of that name
stood for "mcount", and was created by the recordmcount.pl script. One that
I wrote over a decade ago. Once I knew the source of the problem, I was
able to investigate it further.

The way the recordmcount.pl script works (BTW, there's a C version that
simply modifies the ELF object) is by doing an "objdump" on the object
file. Looks for all the calls to "mcount", and creates an offset of those
locations from some global variable it can use (usually a global function
name, found with <.*>:). Creates a asm file that is a table of references
to these locations, using the found variable/function. Compiles it and
links it back into the original object file. This asm file is called
".tmp_mc_<object_base_name>.s".

The problem here is that the objdump produced by the nds32 object file,
contains things that look like:

 0000159a <.L3^B1>:
    159a:       c6 00           beqz38 $r6, 159a <.L3^B1>
                        159a: R_NDS32_9_PCREL_RELA      .text+0x159e
    159c:       84 d2           movi55 $r6, #-14
    159e:       80 06           mov55 $r0, $r6
    15a0:       ec 3c           addi10.sp #0x3c

Where ".L3^B1 is somehow selected as the "global" variable to index off of.

Then the assembly file that holds the mcount locations looks like this:

        .section __mcount_loc,"a",@progbits
        .align 2
        .long .L3^B1 + -5522
        .long .L3^B1 + -5384
        .long .L3^B1 + -5270
        .long .L3^B1 + -5098
        .long .L3^B1 + -4970
        .long .L3^B1 + -4758
        .long .L3^B1 + -4122
        [...]

And when it is compiled back to an object to link to the original object,
the compile fails on the "^" symbol.

Simple solution for now, is to have the perl script ignore using function
symbols that have an "^" in the name.

6ae8277450 ANDROID: module: apply special LTO treatment to .text even if CFI is disabled
We currently only emit directives for handling the .text section into
the module linker script if both LTO and CFI are enabled, while for
other sections, we do this even if CFI is not enabled. This is
inconsistent at best, but as it also interferes with the assumption in
the fips140.ko module that the .text._start and .text._end input
sections are placed at the very start and end of the .text section,
which currently can only be relied upon if CFI is enabled.

So rearrange the #ifdef so that it only covers the .text.__cfi_check
input section. Note that aligning to page size is likely to be redundant
in any case, given that the .text section is laid out first, and module
allocations are page aligned to begin with, so making that part
unconditional is unlikely to make an observeable difference in the
output.

d7a956441f BACKPORT: kbuild: Fix TRIM_UNUSED_KSYMS with LTO_CLANG
With CONFIG_LTO_CLANG, we currently link modules into native
code just before modpost, which means with TRIM_UNUSED_KSYMS
enabled, we still look at the LLVM bitcode in the .o files when
generating the list of used symbols. As the bitcode doesn't
yet have calls to compiler intrinsics and llvm-nm doesn't see
function references that only exist in function-level inline
assembly, we currently need a whitelist for TRIM_UNUSED_KSYMS to
work with LTO.

This change moves module LTO linking to happen earlier, and
thus avoids the issue with LLVM bitcode and TRIM_UNUSED_KSYMS
entirely, allowing us to also drop the whitelist from
gen_autoksyms.sh.

1e80f91bb9 UPSTREAM: Kbuild: lto: fix module versionings mismatch in GNU make 3.X
When building modules(CONFIG_...=m), I found some of module versions
are incorrect and set to 0.
This can be found in build log for first clean build which shows

WARNING: EXPORT symbol "XXXX" [drivers/XXX/XXX.ko] version generation failed,
symbol will not be versioned.

But in second build(incremental build), the WARNING disappeared and the
module version becomes valid CRC and make someone who want to change
modules without updating kernel image can't insert their modules.

The problematic code is
+	$(foreach n, $(filter-out FORCE,$^),				\
+		$(if $(wildcard $(n).symversions),			\
+			; cat $(n).symversions >> $@.symversions))

For example:
  rm -f fs/notify/built-in.a.symversions    ; rm -f fs/notify/built-in.a; \
llvm-ar cDPrST fs/notify/built-in.a fs/notify/fsnotify.o \
fs/notify/notification.o fs/notify/group.o ...

`foreach n` shows nothing to `cat` into $(n).symversions because
`if $(wildcard $(n).symversions)` return nothing, but actually
they do exist during this line was executed.

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 168580 Jun 13 19:10 fs/notify/fsnotify.o
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root    111 Jun 13 19:10 fs/notify/fsnotify.o.symversions

The reason is the $(n).symversions are generated at runtime, but
Makefile wildcard function expends and checks the file exist or not
during parsing the Makefile.

Thus fix this by use `test` shell command to check the file
existence in runtime.

1e4cfe954b kbuild: Fix 'no symbols' warning when CONFIG_TRIM_UNUSD_KSYMS=y
[ Upstream commit 52d83df682 ]

When CONFIG_TRIM_UNUSED_KSYMS is enabled, I see some warnings like this:

  nm: arch/x86/entry/vdso/vdso32/note.o: no symbols

$NM (both GNU nm and llvm-nm) warns when no symbol is found in the
object. Suppress the stderr.

Fangrui Song mentioned binutils>=2.37 `nm -q` can be used to suppress
"no symbols" [1], and llvm-nm>=13.0.0 supports -q as well.

We cannot use it for now, but note it as a TODO.

042dd43a1b Revert "FROMLIST: kbuild: Add dtc flag test"
This reverts commit 47b5470fd1.

The variable DTC_FLAGS is a recursively expanded makefile variable which
means that it is re-expanded every time it is referenced. In other
words, a try-run is performed every time this variable is referenced
which is wasteful because the result will always be the same. In
addition, if dtc is invoked with $(call if_changed_dep,dtc,dtb),
DTC_FLAGS is apparently expanded three times. As a result, we observe 3
try-runs per dtc-option of which there are 8. This means that every
compilation of a device tree file is preceded by 24 try-runs! Every
invocation of dtc turns into 25 invocations! Additionally, it appears
as if Make prohibits parallelization if a recipe contains a reference to
the $(shell ....) function.
