Nothing in this minimal script seems to require bash. We often run these
tests on embedded devices where the only shell available is the busybox
ash. Use sh instead.

Currently we have the install-traceevent-plugins target being dependent
on $(LIBTRACEEVENT), which will actualy not build any plugin. So the
install-traceevent-plugins target itself will try to build plugins,
but..

Plugins built is also triggered by perf build itself via
libtraceevent_plugins target.

This might cause a race having one make thread removing temp files from
another and result in above error. Fixing this by having proper plugins
build dependency before installing plugins.

c60955f446 perf symbols: Fixup symbol sizes before picking best ones

When we call symbol__fixup_duplicate() we use algorithms to pick the
"best" symbols for cases where there are various functions/aliases to an
address, and those check zero size symbols, which, before calling
symbol__fixup_end() are _all_ symbols in a just parsed kallsyms file.

So first fixup the end, then fixup the duplicates.

Found while trying to figure out why 'perf test vmlinux' failed, see the
output of 'perf test -v vmlinux' to see cases where the symbols picked
as best for vmlinux don't match the ones picked for kallsyms.

8d31e5f994 perf symbols: Check symbol_conf.allow_aliases for kallsyms loading too

We can allow aliases to be kept, but we were checking this just when
loading vmlinux files, be consistent, do it for any symbol table loading
code that calls symbol__fixup_duplicate() by making this function check
.allow_aliases instead.

349eb2cf6d perf hists browser: Fix event group display
commit d9ea48bc4e upstream.

Milian reported that the event group on TUI shows duplicated overhead.
This was due to a bug on calculating hpp->buf position.  The
hpp_advance() was called from __hpp__slsmg_color_printf() on TUI but
it's already called from the hpp__call_print_fn macro in __hpp__fmt().
The end result is that the print function returns number of bytes it
printed but the buffer advanced twice of the length.

This is generally not a problem since it doesn't need to access the
buffer again.  But with event group, overhead needs to be printed
multiple times and hist_entry__snprintf_alignment() tries to fill the
space with buffer after it printed.  So it (brokenly) showed the last
overhead again.

The bug was there from the beginning, but I think it's only revealed
when the alignment function was added.

7629c7ef52 perf stat: Fix interval output values

We broke interval data displays with commit:

  3f416f22d1 ("perf stat: Do not clean event's private stats")

This commit removed stats cleaning, which is important for '-r' option
to carry counters data over the whole run. But it's necessary to clean
it for interval mode, otherwise the displayed value is avg of all
previous values.

Before:
  $ perf stat -e cycles -a -I 1000 record
  #           time             counts unit events
       1.000240796         75,216,287      cycles
       2.000512791        107,823,524      cycles

  $ perf stat report
  #           time             counts unit events
       1.000240796         75,216,287      cycles
       2.000512791         91,519,906      cycles

Now:

Notice the second value being bigger (91,.. < 107,..).

This could be easily verified by using perf script which displays raw
stat data:

b1d528d090 perf intel-pt: Fix MTC timestamp calculation for large MTC periods
commit 3bccbe20f6 upstream.

The MTC packet provides a 8-bit slice of CTC which is related to TSC by
the TMA packet, however the TMA packet only provides the lower 16 bits
of CTC.  If mtc_shift > 8 then some of the MTC bits are not in the CTC
provided by the TMA packet. Fix-up the last_mtc calculated from the TMA
packet by copying the missing bits from the current MTC assuming the
least difference between the two, and that the current MTC comes after
last_mtc.

d04565939c perf intel-pt: Fix estimated timestamps for cycle-accurate mode
commit 51ee6481fa upstream.

In cycle-accurate mode, timestamps can be calculated from CYC packets.
The decoder also estimates timestamps based on the number of
instructions since the last timestamp. For that to work in
cycle-accurate mode, the instruction count needs to be reset to zero
when a timestamp is calculated from a CYC packet, but that wasn't
happening, so fix it.

0ea2bdfcdd perf intel-pt: Fix snapshot overlap detection decoder errors

Fix occasional decoder errors decoding trace data collected in snapshot
mode.

Snapshot mode can take successive snapshots of trace which might overlap.
The decoder checks whether there is an overlap but only looks at the
current and previous buffer. However buffers that do not contain
synchronization (i.e. PSB) packets cannot be decoded or used for overlap
checking. That means the decoder actually needs to check overlaps between
the current buffer and the previous buffer that contained usable data.
Make that change.

Currently some "Unspecified error 0x80004005" is reported on the Windows
side if something fails. Handle the ENOSPC case and return
ERROR_DISK_FULL, which allows at least Copy-VMFile to report a meaning
full error.

8f5b7e3f41 perf intel-pt: Fix occasional decoding errors when tracing system-wide
commit 3d918fb13a upstream.

In order to successfully decode Intel PT traces, context switch events
are needed from the moment the trace starts. Currently that is ensured
by using the 'immediate' flag which enables the switch event when it is
opened.

However, since commit 86c2786994 ("perf intel-pt: Add support for
PERF_RECORD_SWITCH") that might not always happen. When tracing
system-wide the context switch event is added to the tracking event
which was not set as 'immediate'. Change that so it is.

b529544b01 tools/testing/nvdimm: fix SIGTERM vs hotplug crash

The unit tests crash when hotplug races the previous probe. This race
requires that the loading of the nfit_test module be terminated with
SIGTERM, and the module to be unloaded while the ars scan is still
running.

In contrast to the normal nfit driver, the unit test calls
acpi_nfit_init() twice to simulate hotplug, whereas the nominal case
goes through the acpi_nfit_notify() event handler.  The
acpi_nfit_notify() path is careful to flush the previous region
registration before servicing the hotplug event. The unit test was
missing this guarantee.

09e1b6ffeb cs-etm: associating output packet with CPU they executed on
This patch adds the required mechanic to quickly lookup the CPU number
associated with a traceID.  That way the CPU that executed the code
conveyed by a decoded packet can be identified, without having to
do unecessary translations.

Using this new functionality the "cs-trace-disasm.py" script is
enhanced to output the file and CPU number the code has been
executed on:

fb91616a5e cs-etm: removing unecessary structure field
Function cs_etm__sample() is called only from cs_etm__run_decoder() where
cs_etm_queue::have_sample is set to 'true'.  As such checking the value of
the variable again in cs_etm__sample() is not needed.

Since the variable isn't used anywhere else, also removing it from the
structure definition.

7b4fe2ff5a cs-etm: account for each trace buffer in the queue
Function cs_etm__get_trace() picks up a single buffer from the current
queue.  As such when multiple buffers are present in the queue several
iteration of the fetch-decode block need to be run in order to process
all the trace data.

c14318faac cs-etm: avoid casting variable
Because of two's complement reprensentation, casting an int to
and unsigned value doesn't simply get rid of the negative sign.
As such a value of -1 becomes 0xFFFFFFFF, which is clearly not
the desired effect.

This patch deals with cases when @cpu has the value of -1.  In
those cases queue '0' is initially selected.

cda8131df1 perf tools: new naming convention for openCSD
The naming convention for the openCSD API and header files
was changed so that using it was easier.  Headers went from
"rctdl_xyz.h" to "opencsd_xyz.h" while internal symbol from
"rctdl_" to "ocsd_".

6a453d5d51 perf tools: add infrastructure for PMU specific configuration
This patchset adds PMU driver specific configuration to the parser
infrastructure by preceding any term with the '@' letter.  As such
doing something like:

perf -e some_event/@drv1,@drv2=drv_config/ ...

will see 'drv1' and 'drv2=config' being added to the list of evsel config
terms.  Token 'drv1' and 'drv2=config' are not processed in user space
and are meant to be interpreted by the PMU driver.

First the lexer/parser are supplemented with the required definitions to
recognise the driver specific configuration.  From there they are simply
added to the list of event terms.  The bulk of the work is done in
function "parse_events_add_pmu()" where driver config event terms are
added to a new list of driver config terms, which in turn spliced with
the event's new driver configuration list.

690829a7ad BACKPORT: perf tools: Document the perf sysctls
perf_event_paranoid was only documented in source code and a perf error
message.  Copy the documentation from the error message to
Documentation/sysctl/kernel.txt.

perf_cpu_time_max_percent was already documented but missing from the
list at the top, so add it there.
