dbb43fb98a cpufreq: check if policy is inactive early in __cpufreq_get()
[ Upstream commit 2f66196208 ]

cpuinfo_cur_freq gets current CPU frequency as detected by hardware
while scaling_cur_freq last known CPU frequency. Some platforms may not
allow checking the CPU frequency of an offline CPU or the associated
resources may have been released via cpufreq_exit when the CPU gets
offlined, in which case the policy would have been invalidated already.
If we attempt to get current frequency from the hardware, it may result
in hang or crash.

For example on Juno, I see:

Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 0000000000000188

36cce138ca cpufreq: dt: Try freeing static OPPs only if we have added them
[ Upstream commit 51c99dd2c0 ]

We can not call dev_pm_opp_of_cpumask_remove_table() freely anymore
since the latest OPP core updates as that uses reference counting to
free resources. There are cases where no static OPPs are added (using
DT) for a platform and trying to remove the OPP table may end up
decrementing refcount which is already zero and hence generating
warnings.

Lets track if we were able to add static OPPs or not and then only
remove the table based on that. Some reshuffling of code is also done to
do that.

dbf9a0532e sched/cputime: Convert kcpustat to nsecs
commit 7fb1327ee9 upstream.

Kernel CPU stats are stored in cputime_t which is an architecture
defined type, and hence a bit opaque and requiring accessors and mutators
for any operation.

Converting them to nsecs simplifies the code and is one step toward
the removal of cputime_t in the core code.

47bbcd6bf8 ANDROID: Fix massive cpufreq_times memory leaks
Every time _cpu_up() is called for a CPU, idle_thread_get() is called
which then re-initializes a CPU's idle thread that was already
previously created and cached in a global variable in
smpboot.c. idle_thread_get() calls init_idle() which then calls
__sched_fork(). __sched_fork() is where cpufreq_task_times_init() is,
and cpufreq_task_times_init() allocates memory for the task struct's
time_in_state array.

Since idle_thread_get() reuses a task struct instance that was already
previously created, this means that every time it calls init_idle(),
cpufreq_task_times_init() allocates this array again and overwrites
the existing allocation that the idle thread already had.

This causes memory to be leaked every time a CPU is onlined. In order
to fix this, move allocation of time_in_state into _do_fork to avoid
allocating it at all for idle threads. The cpufreq times interface is
intended to be used for tracking userspace tasks, so we can safely
remove it from the kernel's idle threads without killing any
functionality.

But that's not all!

Task structs can be freed outside of release_task(), which creates
another memory leak because a task struct can be freed without having
its cpufreq times allocation freed. To fix this, free the cpufreq
times allocation at the same time that task struct allocations are
freed, in free_task().

Since free_task() can also be called in error paths of copy_process()
after dup_task_struct(), set time_in_state to NULL immediately after
calling dup_task_struct() to avoid possible double free.

5930589d3f cpufreq: Fix new policy initialization during limits updates via sysfs
commit c7d1f119c4 upstream.

If the policy limits are updated via cpufreq_update_policy() and
subsequently via sysfs, the limits stored in user_policy may be
set incorrectly.

For example, if both min and max are set via sysfs to the maximum
available frequency, user_policy.min and user_policy.max will also
be the maximum. If a policy notifier triggered by
cpufreq_update_policy() lowers both the min and the max at this
point, that change is not reflected by the user_policy limits, so
if the max is updated again via sysfs to the same lower value,
then user_policy.max will be lower than user_policy.min which
shouldn't happen. In particular, if one of the policy CPUs is
then taken offline and back online, cpufreq_set_policy() will
fail for it due to a failing limits check.

To prevent that from happening, initialize the min and max fields
of the new_policy object to the ones stored in user_policy that
were previously set via sysfs.

0fba88ec9a cpufreq: Reorder cpufreq_online() error code path
[ Upstream commit b24b6478e6 ]

Ideally the de-allocation of resources should happen in the exact
opposite order in which they were allocated. It helps maintain the code
in long term, even if nothing really breaks with incorrect ordering.

That wasn't followed in cpufreq_online() and it has some
inconsistencies. For example, the symlinks were created from within
the locked region while they are removed only after putting the locks.
Also ->exit() should have been called only after the symlinks are
removed and the lock is dropped, as that was the case when ->init()
was first called.

707f25a21d cpufreq: CPPC: Initialize shared perf capabilities of CPUs
[ Upstream commit 8913315e94 ]

When multiple CPUs are related in one cpufreq policy, the first online
CPU will be chosen by default to handle cpufreq operations. Let's take
cpu0 and cpu1 as an example.

When cpu0 is offline, policy->cpu will be shifted to cpu1. cpu1's perf
capabilities should be initialized. Otherwise, perf capabilities are 0s
and speed change can not take effect.

This patch copies perf capabilities of the first online CPU to other
shared CPUs when policy shared type is CPUFREQ_SHARED_TYPE_ANY.

4edf8ffe0c cpufreq: powernv: Fix hardlockup due to synchronous smp_call in timer interrupt
commit c0f7f5b6c6 upstream.

gpstate_timer_handler() uses synchronous smp_call to set the pstate
on the requested core. This causes the below hard lockup:

  smp_call_function_single+0x110/0x180 (unreliable)
  smp_call_function_any+0x180/0x250
  gpstate_timer_handler+0x1e8/0x580
  call_timer_fn+0x50/0x1c0
  expire_timers+0x138/0x1f0
  run_timer_softirq+0x1e8/0x270
  __do_softirq+0x158/0x3e4
  irq_exit+0xe8/0x120
  timer_interrupt+0x9c/0xe0
  decrementer_common+0x114/0x120
  -- interrupt: 901 at doorbell_global_ipi+0x34/0x50
  LR = arch_send_call_function_ipi_mask+0x120/0x130
  arch_send_call_function_ipi_mask+0x4c/0x130
  smp_call_function_many+0x340/0x450
  pmdp_invalidate+0x98/0xe0
  change_huge_pmd+0xe0/0x270
  change_protection_range+0xb88/0xe40
  mprotect_fixup+0x140/0x340
  SyS_mprotect+0x1b4/0x350
  system_call+0x58/0x6c

One way to avoid this is removing the smp-call. We can ensure that the
timer always runs on one of the policy-cpus. If the timer gets
migrated to a cpu outside the policy then re-queue it back on the
policy->cpus. This way we can get rid of the smp-call which was being
used to set the pstate on the policy->cpus.

ade9f4ba0d cpufreq/sh: Replace racy task affinity logic
[ Upstream commit 205dcc1ecb ]

The target() callback must run on the affected cpu. This is achieved by
temporarily setting the affinity of the calling thread to the requested CPU
and reset it to the original affinity afterwards.

That's racy vs. concurrent affinity settings for that thread resulting in
code executing on the wrong CPU.

Replace it by work_on_cpu(). All call pathes which invoke the callbacks are
already protected against CPU hotplug.

144b6353ae cpufreq: s3c24xx: Fix broken s3c_cpufreq_init()
commit 0373ca7483 upstream.

commit a307a1e6bc "cpufreq: s3c: use cpufreq_generic_init()"
accidentally broke cpufreq on s3c2410 and s3c2412.

These two platforms don't have a CPU frequency table and used to skip
calling cpufreq_table_validate_and_show() for them. But with the
above commit, we started calling it unconditionally and that will
eventually fail as the frequency table pointer is NULL.

Fix this by calling cpufreq_table_validate_and_show() conditionally
again.

06be007aa4 x86/cpu: Rename cpu_data.x86_mask to cpu_data.x86_stepping
commit b399151cb4 upstream.

x86_mask is a confusing name which is hard to associate with the
processor's stepping.

Additionally, correct an indent issue in lib/cpu.c.

6436981ba6 cpufreq: Add Loongson machine dependencies
[ Upstream commit 0d307935fe ]

The MIPS loongson cpufreq drivers don't build unless configured for the
correct machine type, due to dependency on machine specific architecture
headers and symbols in machine specific platform code.

More specifically loongson1-cpufreq.c uses RST_CPU_EN and RST_CPU,
neither of which is defined in asm/mach-loongson32/regs-clk.h unless
CONFIG_LOONGSON1_LS1B=y, and loongson2_cpufreq.c references
loongson2_clockmod_table[], which is only defined in
arch/mips/loongson64/lemote-2f/clock.c, i.e. when
CONFIG_LEMOTE_MACH2F=y.

Add these dependencies to Kconfig to avoid randconfig / allyesconfig
build failures (e.g. when based on BMIPS which also has a cpufreq
driver).

0f96d86732 cpufreq: add scaled minimum capacity tracking for policy changes
When the minimum frequency available to a policy is modified either
by userspace or by external actors setting a minimum frequency for a
voltage domain to control behaviour of some connected component, we
expect that the cpufreq policy will be updated to reflect this.

If we wish to use this information to guide energy estimation and
scheduling decisions, we need to track it.
Implement cpufreq_scale_min_freq_capacity() to provide the scheduler
with a minimum frequency scaling correction factor for more accurate
cpu capacity information.
This scaling factor describes the influence of running a cpu with a
current policy minimum frequency higher than the minimum possible
frequency.

The factor is:
	current_min_freq(cpu) << SCHED_CAPACITY_SHIFT / max_freq(cpu)

This factor is computed in scale_min_freq_capacity and returned,
per cpu, in cpufreq_scale_min_freq_capacity.

7b619defb7 cpufreq: implement max frequency capping
Implements the Max Frequency Capping Engine (MFCE) getter function
cpufreq_scale_max_freq_capacity() to provide the scheduler with a
maximum frequency scaling correction factor for more accurate cpu
capacity handling by being able to deal with max frequency capping.

This scaling factor describes the influence of running a cpu with a
current maximum frequency (policy) lower than the maximum possible
frequency (cpuinfo).

The factor is:

  policy_max_freq(cpu) << SCHED_CAPACITY_SHIFT / cpuinfo_max_freq(cpu)

It also implements the MFCE setter function scale_max_freq_capacity()
which is called from cpufreq_set_policy().

19e1513f87 cpufreq: remove max frequency capping from scale_freq_capacity()
After the revert of "cpufreq: Max freq invariant scheduler load-tracking
and cpu capacity support" scale_freq_capacity() is now only the setter
of the Frequency Invariant Engine (FIE). That's why the call to
scale_freq_capacity() in cpufreq_set_policy() can be deleted because
this was driving max frequency capping.

The patch changes the parameter list of scale_freq_capacity() to

 (1) set of cpus involved (cpumask)
 (2) current frequency
 (3) max possible frequency (cpuinfo related)

to not be forced to expose cpufreq internal data structures like struct
cpufreq_policy or struct cpufreq_freqs.
