[ Upstream commitb996544916] The variable tick_period is initialized to NSEC_PER_TICK / HZ during boot and never updated again. If NSEC_PER_TICK is not an integer multiple of HZ this computation is less accurate than TICK_NSEC which has proper rounding in place. Aside of the inaccuracy there is no reason for having this variable at all. It's just a pointless indirection and all usage sites can just use the TICK_NSEC constant. Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
