commit98b8e4e5c1upstream. Calling acpi_wmi_init() at the subsys_initcall() level causes ordering issues to appear on some systems and they are difficult to reproduce, because there is no guaranteed ordering between subsys_initcall() calls, so they may occur in different orders on different systems. In particular, commit86d9f48534(mm/slab: fix kmemcg cache creation delayed issue) exposed one of these issues where genl_init() and acpi_wmi_init() are both called at the same initcall level, but the former must run before the latter so as to avoid a NULL pointer dereference. For this reason, move the acpi_wmi_init() invocation to the initcall_sync level which should still be early enough for things to work correctly in the WMI land. Linux kernel ============ This file was moved to Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst Please notice that there are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or ``make pdfdocs``. There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory, several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation. See Documentation/00-INDEX for a list of what is contained in each file. Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
