[ Upstream commit71d46f1ff2] The simple_write_to_buffer() function will return positive/success if it is able to write a single byte anywhere within the buffer. However that potentially leaves a lot of the buffer uninitialized. In this code it's better to return 0 if the offset is non-zero. This code is not written to support partial writes. And then return -EFAULT if the buffer is not completely initialized. Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
