[ Upstream commitf287eb9013] The error checks on freq for a negative error return always fails because freq is unsigned and can never be negative. Fix this by making freq a signed long. These guides can be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or ``make pdfdocs``.
