[ Upstream commit422ae7d9c7] The probe() function is only used for the DP83822 PHY, leaving the private data pointer uninitialized for the smaller DP83825/26 models. While all uses of the private data structure are hidden in 82822 specific callbacks, configuring the interrupt is shared across all models. This causes a NULL pointer dereference on the smaller PHYs as it accesses the private data unchecked. Verifying the pointer avoids that. Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
