When the 'cachestat()' system call was added in commitcf264e1329("cachestat: implement cachestat syscall"), it was meant to be a much more convenient (and performant) version of mincore() that didn't need mapping things into the user virtual address space in order to work. But it ended up missing the "check for writability or ownership" fix for mincore(), done in commit134fca9063("mm/mincore.c: make mincore() more conservative"). This just adds equivalent logic to 'cachestat()', modified for the file context (rather than vma). Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
