[ Upstream commitf967140dfb] Enable the sampling check in kernel/events/core.c::perf_event_open(), which returns the more appropriate -EOPNOTSUPP. BEFORE: $ sudo perf record -a -e instructions,l3_request_g1.caching_l3_cache_accesses true Error: The sys_perf_event_open() syscall returned with 22 (Invalid argument) for event (l3_request_g1.caching_l3_cache_accesses). /bin/dmesg | grep -i perf may provide additional information. With nothing relevant in dmesg. AFTER: $ sudo perf record -a -e instructions,l3_request_g1.caching_l3_cache_accesses true Error: l3_request_g1.caching_l3_cache_accesses: PMU Hardware doesn't support sampling/overflow-interrupts. Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
See Documentation/00-INDEX for a list of what is contained in each file.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
