Btrfs has not allowed swap files since commit35054394c4("Btrfs: stop providing a bmap operation to avoid swapfile corruptions"). However, now that the proper restrictions are in place, Btrfs can support swap files through the swap file a_ops, similar to iomap in commit67482129cd("iomap: add a swapfile activation function"). For Btrfs, activation needs to make sure that the file can be used as a swap file, which currently means that it must be fully allocated as NOCOW with no compression on one device. It must also do the proper tracking so that ioctls will not interfere with the swap file. Deactivation clears this tracking. Linux kernel
============
There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can
be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read
Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
