In order to gain greater visibility to type information when using __builtin_object_size(), Clang has a function attribute "pass_object_size" that will make size information available for marked arguments in a function by way of implicit additional function arguments that are then wired up the __builtin_object_size(). This is needed to implement FORTIFY_SOURCE in Clang, as a workaround to Clang's __builtin_object_size() having limited visibility[1] into types across function calls (even inlines). This attribute has an additional benefit that it can be used even on non-inline functions to gain argument size information. Linux kernel
============
There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can
be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read
Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
