A recent commit removed the NULL pointer check from the clock_getres()
implementation causing a test case to fault.
POSIX requires an explicit NULL pointer check for clock_getres() aside of
the validity check of the clock_id argument for obscure reasons.
Add it back for both 32bit and 64bit.
Note, this is only a partial revert of the offending commit which does not
bring back the broken fallback invocation in the the 32bit compat
implementations of clock_getres() and clock_gettime().

To address the regression which causes seccomp to deny applications the
access to clock_gettime64() and clock_getres64() syscalls because they
are not enabled in the existing filters.
That trips over the fact that 32bit VDSOs use the new clock_gettime64() and
clock_getres64() syscalls in the fallback path.
Add a conditional to invoke the 32bit legacy fallback syscalls instead of
the new 64bit variants. The conditional can go away once all architectures
are converted.

To allow syscall fallbacks using the legacy 32bit syscall for 32bit VDSO
builds, move the fallback invocation out into the callers.
Split the common code out of __cvdso_clock_gettime/getres() and invoke the
syscall fallback in the 64bit and 32bit variants.
Preparatory work for using legacy syscalls in 32bit VDSO. No functional
change.

The 32bit variants of vdso_clock_gettime()/getres() have a NULL pointer
check for the timespec pointer. That's inconsistent vs. 64bit.
But the vdso implementation will never be consistent versus the syscall
because the only case which it can handle is NULL. Any other invalid
pointer will cause a segfault. So special casing NULL is not really useful.
Remove it along with the superflouos syscall fallback invocation as that
will return -EFAULT anyway. That also gets rid of the dubious typecast
which only works because the pointer is NULL.

The x86 vdso implementation on which the generic vdso library is based on
has subtle (unfortunately undocumented) twists:
1) The code assumes that the clocksource mask is U64_MAX which means that
no bits are masked. Which is true for any valid x86 VDSO clocksource.
Stupidly it still did the mask operation for no reason and at the wrong
place right after reading the clocksource.
2) It contains a sanity check to catch the case where slightly
unsynchronized TSC values can be observed which would cause the delta
calculation to make a huge jump. It therefore checks whether the
current TSC value is larger than the value on which the current
conversion is based on. If it's not larger the base value is used to
prevent time jumps.
reason it is also completely wrong for clocksources with a smaller mask
which can legitimately wrap around during a conversion period. The core
timekeeping code does it correct by applying the mask after the delta
calculation:
(now - base) & mask
around during a conversion period because there the now > base check is
just wrong and causes stale time stamps and time going backwards issues.
Unbreak it by:
1) Removing the mask operation from the clocksource read which makes the
fallback detection work for all clocksources
2) Replacing the conditional delta calculation with a overrideable inline
function.
results in a significant performance hit for the x86 VSDO. The timekeeping
core code must have the non optimized version as it has to operate
correctly with clocksources which have smaller masks as well to handle the
case where TSC is discarded as timekeeper clocksource and replaced by HPET
or pmtimer. For the VDSO there is no replacement clocksource. If TSC is
unusable the syscall is enforced which does the right thing.
To accommodate to the needs of various architectures provide an
override-able inline function which defaults to the regular delta
calculation with masking:
(now - base) & mask
Override it for x86 with the non-masking and checking version.
This unbreaks the ARM64 syscall fallback operation, allows to use
clocksources with arbitrary width and preserves the performance
optimization for x86.

Commit e0d5896bd3 ("arm64: lse: fix LSE atomics with LLVM's integrated
assembler") broke the build when clang is used in connjunction with the
binutils assembler ("-no-integrated-as"). This happens because

The libc provides a discovery mechanism for vDSO library and its
symbols. When a symbol is not exposed by the vDSOs the libc falls back
on the system calls.
With the introduction of the unified vDSO library on mips this behavior
is not honored anymore by the kernel in the case of gettimeofday().
The issue has been noticed and reported due to a dhclient failure on the
CI20 board:

On some MIPS variants (e.g. MIPS r1), vDSO clock_mode is set to
VDSO_CLOCK_NONE.
When VDSO_CLOCK_NONE is set the expected kernel behavior is to fallback
on syscalls. To do that the generic vDSO library expects UULONG_MAX as
return value of __arch_get_hw_counter().
Fix __arch_get_hw_counter() on MIPS defining a __VDSO_USE_SYSCALL case
that addressed the described scenario.

CONFIG_COMPAT_VDSO is defined by passing '-DCONFIG_COMPAT_VDSO' to the
compiler when the generic compat vDSO code is in use. It's much cleaner
and simpler to expose this as a proper Kconfig option (like x86 does),
so do that and remove the bodge.

Directly passing the '--target' option to clang by appending to
COMPATCC does not work if COMPATCC has been specified explicitly as
an argument to Make unless the 'override' directive is used, which is
ugly and different to what is done in the top-level Makefile.
Move the '--target' option for clang out of COMPATCC and into
VDSO_CAFLAGS, where it will be picked up when compiling and assembling
the 32-bit vDSO under clang.

KBUILD_CPPFLAGS is defined differently depending on whether the main
compiler is clang or not. This means that it is not possible to build
the compat vDSO with GCC if the rest of the kernel is built with clang.
Define VDSO_CPPFLAGS directly to break this dependency and allow a clang
kernel to build a compat vDSO with GCC:

Older versions of binutils (prior to 2.24) do not support the "ISHLD"
option for memory barrier instructions, which leads to a build failure
when assembling the vdso32 library.

The .config file and the generated include/config/auto.conf can
end up out of sync after a set of commands since
CONFIG_CROSS_COMPILE_COMPAT_VDSO is not updated correctly.
The sequence can be reproduced as follows:

via CROSS_COMPILE_COMPAT, much like we do for the rest of the kernel.

On AArch64 the TCR_EL1.TBI0 bit is set by default, allowing userspace
(EL0) to perform memory accesses through 64-bit pointers with a non-zero
top byte. However, such pointers were not allowed at the user-kernel
syscall ABI boundary.
With the Tagged Address ABI patchset, it is now possible to pass tagged
pointers to the syscalls. Relax the requirements described in
tagged-pointers.rst to be compliant with the behaviours guaranteed by
the AArch64 Tagged Address ABI.

an incorrect detection of the compat compiler:

Accordingly to the section 7.2 of the GNU Make manual "Syntax of
Conditionals", "When the value results from complex expansions of
variables and functions, expansions you would consider empty may
actually contain whitespace characters and thus are not seen as
empty. However, you can use the strip function to avoid interpreting
whitespace as a non-empty value."
Fix the issue adding strip to the CROSS_COMPILE_COMPAT string
evaluation.

The vdso library for o32 and n32 does not compile compile correctly when
building outside of the source tree due to a wrong inclusion path for
config-n32-o32-env.c resulting in the error below:

With the release of Linux 5.1 has been added a new syscall,
clock_gettime64, that provided a 64 bit time value for a specified
clock_ID to make the kernel Y2038 safe on 32 bit architectures.
Update the mips32 specific vDSO library accordingly with what it has
been done for the kernel syscall exposing the clock_gettime64 entry
point.

We use $(LD) to link vmlinux, modules, decompressors, etc.
VDSO is the only exceptional case where $(CC) is used as the linker
driver, but I do not know why we need to do so. VDSO uses a special
linker script, and does not link standard libraries at all.
I changed the Makefile to use $(LD) rather than $(CC). I tested this,
and VDSO worked for me.
Users will be able to use their favorite linker (e.g. lld instead of
of bfd) by passing LD= from the command line.
My plan is to rewrite all VDSO Makefiles to use $(LD), then delete
cc-ldoption.

The recent changes to the vdso library for arm64 and the introduction of
the compat vdso library have generated some misalignment in the
Makefiles.
Cleanup the Makefiles for vdso and vdso32 libraries:
* Removing unused rules.
* Unifying the displayed compilation messages.
* Simplifying the generic library inclusion path for
arm64 vdso.

Prior to the introduction of Unified vDSO support and compat layer for
vDSO on arm64, AT_SYSINFO_EHDR was not defined for compat tasks.
In the current implementation, AT_SYSINFO_EHDR is defined even if the
compat vdso layer is not built, which has been shown to break Android
applications using bionic:

The generic VDSO implementation uses the Y2038 safe clock_gettime64() and
clock_getres_time64() syscalls as fallback for 32bit VDSO. This breaks
seccomp setups because these syscalls might be not (yet) allowed.
Implement the 32bit variants which use the legacy syscalls and select the
variant in the core library.
The 64bit time variants are not removed because they are required for the
time64 based vdso accessors.

This is causing "LD vmlinux" once every two times even without any
modifications. This is the same bug fixed in commit 92a4728608
("x86/boot: Fix if_changed build flip/flop bug"). Two "if_changed" cannot
be used in one target.
Fix this merging two commands into one function.

We have a special segment descriptor entry in the GDT, whose sole purpose is to
encode the CPU and node numbers in its limit (size) field. There are user-space
instructions that allow the reading of the limit field, which gives us a really
fast way to read the CPU and node IDs from the vDSO for example.
But the naming of related functionality does not make this clear, at all:

There's a number of problems:
- The 'VDSO_CPU_SIZE' doesn't really make it clear that these are number
of bits, nor does it make it clear which 'CPU' this refers to, i.e.
that this is about a GDT entry whose limit encodes the CPU and node number.
- Furthermore, the 'CPU_NUMBER' naming is actively misleading as well,
because the segment limit encodes not just the CPU number but the
node ID as well ...
So use a better nomenclature all around: name everything related to this trick
as 'CPUNODE', to make it clear that this is something special, and add
_BITS to make it clear that these are number of bits, and propagate this to
every affected name:
VDSO_CPU_SIZE => VDSO_CPUNODE_BITS
VDSO_CPU_MASK => VDSO_CPUNODE_MASK
__CPU_NUMBER_SEG => __CPUNODE_SEG
GDT_ENTRY_CPU_NUMBER => GDT_ENTRY_CPUNODE
vdso_encode_cpu_node => vdso_encode_cpunode
vdso_read_cpu_node => vdso_read_cpunode
This, beyond being less confusing, also makes it easier to grep for all related
functionality:
